Love Differently?
The Full Story
"On the surface...
Christian love may have similarities with secular love, but at the core, both are radically different."
- C.S. Lewis
How can your love look radically different?
I felt unseen...
Growing up, my friends would say, "Hi, How are you?" This well meaning "small talk" only reminded me of my craving for something deeper. It felt as though no one had the time, the heart, or the selfless love to listen. I was thankful to meet friends in my life that showed a different pursuit to know me. It looked different. It felt different. I craved to share this pursuit, this love, to other people that feel unseen in the same way I had. (Phil. 1:9)
Then one day as the preacher spoke, God allowed me to see the opportunity the church downtown would create. The opportunity to welcome people hurting, people in need, people experiencing homelessness...people that might feel...unseen.
I was given a heart to learn how to best serve people in need in downtown Chattanooga. In this stage of learning, I rubbed shoulders with countless non-profits that seemed to flow like an symphony of love. In time, I noticed a difference in how they loved. While it had, similarities, at the core, they were radically different.
This page has links to just a few of the non-profits God allowed me to run along side. I soon began to feel that I'm not the only one with a "reckless love" for my street friends, and that meant the world to me. I soon saw that serving with love is rarely neat and convenient, I would argue that true love at its best is difficult and sacrificial. Learning to show this love has been a journey of "out of the boat" experiences that many of you know could fill a hundred books. All of this because...
Years ago, I felt unseen...
...I now want my street friends to know they are seen.
They are seen & loved by God.
